What is your commitment to sustainability?
At Inverna, we strongly advocate for fair trade and oppose animal cruelty. Year after year, thousands of alpacas die in the highest areas of the Peruvian Andes mountains due to severe winters. These winters also threaten the income of the communities that live there.
As a historical practice, these communities have survived by raising alpacas in the wild to exchange or sell their wool. The loss of many alpacas during cold winters hits their economies hard, leaving them with no choice but to sell their pelts. Inverna takes this otherwise waste leather and transforms it into carefully crafted items.
It is important to emphasize that it is economically unfeasible to execute an alpaca for its skin, since its wool is valued almost three times higher than leather and they can live up to 20 years. For more information visit our sustainability section.
